The Cordish Companies, a Baltimore-based casino and hospitality company, is calling Live! Maryland Casino its flagship property. Cordish developed and opened the Hannover Casino near BWI Airport ten years ago. The casino opened on June 6, 2012. Its hotel was added years later.

Cordish has agreed to sell the complex to Gaming and Leisure Properties, Inc., the real estate investment trust controlled by Penn National Gaming, in December 2021. But Cordish continues to operate the property through a sale-leaseback agreement. which must last at least 2062.

Cordish leaders are well known for giving back to the communities in which they operate. They also have a fun side, with Chairman David Cordish attending the Live! Casino in Maryland handing out $100 bills to patrons.

With that in mind, Cordish has taken the time this week to celebrate its workers. The casino drew the names of 100 lucky employees who had the opportunity to go wild at a Costco warehouse store, grabbing almost anything they wanted on the corporate tab.

Supermarket sweep

Cordish employs approximately 1,900 people at Live! CasinoMaryland. Earlier this month, the company drew 100 lucky names through a lottery to determine who would go through the local Costco in Hannover.

Cordish says the 100 big-area sweepers racked up more than $336,000 during the 15-minute rush — an average of nearly $3,400 per “shopper.” The casino paid out the 100 baskets, which is in accordance with Costco’s membership rules.

From robot vacuums and kitchen utensils to fireworks and the best cuts of steak, the Live! Casino employees loaded the most expensive items into their oversized carts.

Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland represents the best of our Live! brand and is truly a labor of love for me and my family,” said David Cordish in a press release. “Building such a successful property and creating lasting relationships with our community is incredibly rewarding and we are thrilled to celebrate this milestone with those who have contributed the most – our team members and our loyal guests.”

Live! in 2021 was, for a fifth consecutive year, the second most profitable casino of Maryland’s six commercial gaming properties. Anne Arundel Casino won nearly $487 million from players through its slots and another $205.3 million on its table games.

Last year was a banner year for Live!, as its gross gaming revenue of approximately $692 million topped the casino’s $422.5 million win and $178.3 million table win. in 2019 before the pandemic.

Maryland casinos are eagerly awaiting the green light from the state to begin sports betting operations. Live! has already been deemed a licensed sports betting operator, but must wait for the Maryland Sports Wagering Application Review Commission to give it the green light to accept its first wagers.

Live! The Maryland Casino Hotel celebrated its 10th anniversary throughout the month with its “A Decade of Wins” promotion. Every day, players on the casino floor take part in My Live! The rewards program was entered for a chance to win $10,000 cash.

The casino also held various surprise giveaways throughout the month. Last week, the casino spontaneously decided to reward 10 Live! Rewards participants who have been members since 2012 with $1,000 cash each.

Cordish also gave back to the community, as its workers on June 17 volunteered their time to United Way of Central Maryland. Volunteers participated in the beautification of a public park. Live! also awarded a $1 million scholarship to the Anne Arundel Community College Hospitality Scholarship Program. Cordish will donate $100,000 annually over the next 10 years to the local college.
