Las Vegas Strip driver in fatal crash was in jail hours earlier

The woman arrested in a fatal car accident on the Las Vegas Strip last week was reportedly released from jail before the collision. She was jailed for a previous assault conviction.

Jamara Williams, 38, of Las Vegas was jailed for six months. She was released last Wednesday, KLAS, a Nevada television station, reported. She was put on probation.

But on Thursday, just hours after her release, the BMW she was driving hit a Nissan Versa near Resorts World Las Vegas. The BMW was traveling at 78mph in an area where the speed limit is 30mph, police said. She was accelerating just as the BMW hit the Versa, police add.

At the time of the accident, the other driver, later identified as Bisheba Gaines, 50, stopped her car in a designated left-turn lane, KVVUanother local TV station, reported.

The accident completely closed all lanes on Las Vegas Boulevard for several hours Thursday as police investigated the crash. An officer from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) was able to quickly reach the accident. The officer was nearby and heard the sound of the collision.

Shortly after the crash, both Williams and a passenger in the BMW were treated at University Medical Center for injuries.

Gaines died at the scene. She suffered serious injuries. The Versa was heavily damaged in the two-car crash.

Williams admitted to smoking marijuana before the crash, police said. She underwent blood tests at UMC. She also reportedly gave police a false name when initially questioned by officers.

It was in November that Williams pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon for the previous case. The charge related to her allegedly stealing food from another woman at a McDonald’s, KLAS said. Details of the incident were not immediately available.

Williams remained in custody Tuesday at the Clark County Detention Center. She was scheduled to appear in local court in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

She was charged with impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing significant bodily harm, two counts of reckless driving and breach of probation or the terms of a suspended sentence, according to local reports. .

Earlier road deaths on Strip

The Las Vegas Strip has seen many accidents with serious injuries or fatalities in recent years. For example, the victim of a motorcycle accident on the Las Vegas Strip on August 5, 2021 later died.

The accident happened at the Strat Hotel, Casino and Skypod on Las Vegas Boulevard. The motorcycle was heading south on Las Vegas Boulevard. When he arrived north of Bob Stupak Avenue, he collided with a Nissan Altima near the casino’s valet parking entrance.

The motorbike was being driven “recklessly”, witnesses told police, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
