Indiana’s newest bookmaker opened earlier this week.
Hard Rock Northern Indiana celebrated the grand opening of its retail sports betting site on Wednesday. Located at the north end of the newest casino in the state, the site offers a box office open until 10:00 p.m. CT on weeknights and 11:00 p.m. CT on weekends. It also has around two dozen kiosks available for betting around the clock.
On Wednesday, the Indiana Gaming Commission (IGC) cleared Hard Rock to take sports bets. Under IGC guidelines, the Hard Rock bookmaker will take bets on all major professional and collegiate team sports. Bets on golf tournaments, tennis matches, UFC matches and NASCAR races will also be available.
Hard Rock will also offer pre-game, in-play and futures betting opportunities.
Casino patrons will be able to watch the games on a large digital screen. Food from the casino’s Hard Rock Café will also be available.
An online application will be available soon, the casino says on its website. In Indiana, a licensed casino can partner with up to three skins or online operators.
Casino’s first anniversary is approaching
The sportsbook is launched as Hard Rock approaches the first anniversary of the official opening of the $300 million casino.
Hard Rock Northern Indiana will celebrate its first anniversary on Saturday with a star-studded party highlighted by a free concert by hip hop pioneer Grandmaster Flash.
The casino will also be holding several raffles throughout the day with eligible loyalty program members to win $2,500 in free play. Before hitting the stage, Grandmaster Flash must draw the grand prize winner, who will receive $25,000 in free play.
The 200,000 square foot facility in Gary offers over 1,600 slot machines and 80 table games. Besides the Hard Rock Café, the casino offers four other dining options and its concert hall opened last fall.
Hard Rock Northern Indiana came to fruition after Spectacle Entertainment purchased the Majestic Star, a two-boat casino based in Gary’s Buffington Harbor, in 2018. Thanks to a bill passed by state lawmakers a year later , the casino developers were able to move the casino five miles inland. in the town of Rust Belt.
The move allowed it to move away from two casinos closer to the Illinois state line on Interstate 90. Now it’s the only casino on Interstate 80/94, with access more direct to residents of the southern suburbs of Chicago.
Top Performing Casino
Hard Rock sports betting will struggle to match the performance of the casino.
Since October, Gary’s Casino has topped the monthly IGC reports for adjusted gross revenue. As of Thursday, when the commission released the April report, Hard Rock’s $36.7 million AGR was more than $5 million higher than Horseshoe Indianapolis. Caesars Entertainment’s racino had the second highest amount with $31.6 million.
Before deducting $1.5 million in free play credits, Hard Rock announced a total win of $38.2 million. While it ranked second to Horseshoe Indy in slot revenue, the $12.7 million in table game revenue nearly doubled the second-best performer, Horseshoe Hammond. The casino just across the Indiana-Illinois border took in $6.9 million on table games.
